Newburgh Elementary is located on a seven-acre site on the corner of State and Gray Streets in Newburgh. Currently, there are 614 students enrolled in grades K-5. The faculty has 28 teachers.
The present building has been transformed over time through a series of renovations. The current building houses 30 classrooms, a dedicated art room, a music room, and a library. Newburgh Elementary also has a dedicated cafeteria, gymnasium, and three computer labs.
Newburgh Elementary has been an "Exemplary" school by Indiana standards since the 2004-2005 school year. Students consistently score above state averages during annual ILEARN testing. Special needs students participate in a variety of educational programs. Students may receive services within a self-contained classroom, a resource room, or a general education classroom utilizing a co-teaching model. A full time speech/language pathologist is also on staff.
Students at Newburgh Elementary are encouraged to be people of character through the Character Counts! Program. Students also participate in the Accelerated Reader program school-wide. Students are encouraged to reach a personal reading goal each quarter which is based on individual ability.
