Requirements for Kindergarten Registration
It's not too late to register your child for kindergarten! Kindergarten Registration Packets are available for pickup at Newburgh Elementary School in the front office!

A child must be five years of age on or before: August 1, 2026 to be eligible for kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year.

A copy of the child’s legal birth certificate must be submitted and on file with the school for enrollment. A hospital copy will not satisfy the requirments.

The Indiana Department of Education requires local school districts to collect proof of Indiana residency documentation for all students enrolling in Indiana schools. To comply with this requirement, you will need to submit documention showing your name and current address at the time of enrollment. Accepted documention may include one of the following:
- Current Utility Bill
- Tax Return
- Bank or Mortgage Statement
- Rental/Lease Agreement
- SSI
- Medical Bill
NOTE: Documention cannot be more than 60 days old and must show the date, parent/guradian name, and address.

All students entering kindergarten are required by Indiana State Law to be current on immunizations before the first day of school. The 2026-2027 requirements are as follows:
- 3 Hepatitis B
- 2 MMR
- 5 DTAP
- 2 Varicella
- 4 Polio
- 2 Hepatitis A
You will be required to provide documention of these immunizations to the school nurse at registration.

The child’s social security number is needed to register for kindergarten. A copy of the social security card is not necessary unless you would like it captured in the permanent record.
